Collina Strada SS27: Taking a Detour Through Fashion, Nature, and Self-Discovery
For Spring/Summer 2027, Collina Strada left the expected runway path behind, presenting “Detour” at Storm King Art Center in a celebration of transformation, instinct, and creative freedom.
Welcome to the Detour
On September 15, Collina Strada presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “Detour,” at Storm King Art Center. The show marked the first runway ever presented at the Hudson Valley destination, placing designer Hillary Taymour’s expressive silhouettes within a landscape of grass, sky, steel, and monumental sculpture.
The setting was central to the collection’s concept. Rather than simply hosting a runway in an art institution, Collina Strada sought to create a presentation inspired by the way visitors experience art—through movement, discovery, and unexpected encounters.
“I’ve always thought of clothing as a sculptural practice,” Taymour explains. “Fabrics and materials move, stretch, collapse, grow and transform with the bodies that inhabit them.”
The Freedom to Change Direction
“Detour” explores the paths we take, the directions we are told to follow, and what happens when we decide to go somewhere else.
The collection embraces getting a little lost, trusting instinct, and taking the long way. Its central message is one of reinvention: the path does not need to be perfect or entirely logical. It can be created along the way.
That spirit remains deeply connected to Collina Strada’s identity—a label built around humor, youth, self-reflection, and the freedom to approach fashion from unexpected angles.
Medieval Romance Meets Modern Rebellion
Across 33 looks, Taymour combines organza feathers, abundant ruffles, complex draping, recycled sequins, and exaggerated volume.
The collection draws from the strange collision of medieval romance and modern rebellion, blending the fantasy of A Knight’s Tale with punk, Y2K references, and the everyday uncertainty of figuring out who you want to become.
Over-draped bottoms and expanded proportions bring volume to pieces that remain wearable, while delicate chiffon, moiré, lace, and floral textiles add a romantic counterpoint to utilitarian cargo pants, hoodies, and tailored separates.
The result is a wardrobe that feels simultaneously historical and futuristic, polished and unruly.
A Landscape in Motion
Nature and sculpture became active participants in the show. Bodies moved through the Storm King landscape, allowing the garments to shift and transform in real time.
The collection’s floral references appeared through chrysanthemum prints, painted plaid, flower-dot textiles, and layered chiffon. Recycled sequins added reflective movement, while lace, satin, and organza created changing textures as the models moved through the open-air setting.
Footwear extended the brand’s playful approach through collaborations with KEEN and Converse, including new interpretations of outdoor-inspired silhouettes and the debut of the sculptural Chuck Taylor Plié.
Fashion as Self-Reflection
Collina Strada’s work continues to position clothing as a tool for examining the self. Through expressive design and unconventional presentation, the brand encourages wearers to question fixed identities and consider how they might become the best version of themselves.
With “Detour,” Hillary Taymour offers a collection about choosing another direction—not as a failure to follow the path, but as the beginning of a new one.
The detour is not the interruption. It is the point.
