JIAO Spring/Summer 2027: “It’s Not Like You Are You”

Fashion label JIAO, in collaboration with creative production studio VisionX, presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection at Cosmos Gallery in New York City.

Titled “It’s not like you are you,” the collection explores the versions of ourselves we reveal to the world and the identities we keep hidden beneath the surface.

New York City | 2026

An immersive runway experience exploring identity, perception, and the duality of the public and private self.

Fashion as Armor

At the heart of the collection is a question: Is fashion the armor of our public persona, or can clothing reveal who we truly are in private?

Structured silhouettes contrast with fluid organza and ethereal ombré, creating a dialogue between control and vulnerability. A custom textile collaboration with CFDA Next Thread Scholar and interdisciplinary artist Freda Xia adds another tactile dimension.

Through these contrasting elements, JIAO challenges the idea that identity is fixed, exploring the tension between social expectations and individual expression.

An Immersive Experience by VisionX

VisionX translated the collection’s themes into an immersive environment, beginning with a soft-pink infinity hallway before opening into the main gallery. Translucent textiles, fluid forms, and mirrored surfaces manipulated light and shadow, blurring the boundary between observer and observed.

Ten models embodied the tension between public identity and private reality, gradually revealing more individual expressions of self throughout the presentation.

Through fashion, architecture, and movement, JIAO and VisionX invited audiences to question what we reveal, what we conceal, and whether any single version of ourselves can tell the whole story.

The Creative Team

The collection was led by Jo Jiao, creative director and fashion designer, with scenography and architecture by Zhen Tong and experience direction and production by Sherry Wen. Xiaoji Zhou served as show director and creative consultant.

Additional contributors included stylist Claire Manor, technical designer Ariana Pearson, and collaborating artist Freda Xia.
